Shelby Announces $240,000 for Huntsville Fire and Rescue

February 22, 2008

Washington, D.C. -

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Homeland Security will release $240,000 to the Huntsville Fire and Rescue in Madison County.  The funding is provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program.

“Firefighters are in the field everyday protecting our citizens,” said Shelby.  “We have a responsibility to ensure that our first responders are adequately prepared to respond to any event. Huntsville Fire and Rescue will use this funding to improve and sustain its operations and safety programs.”

The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded these funds as a part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This program will distribute $490 million in direct federal assistance this year to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations nationwide.
