Shelby Announces $143,450 for Glenn Allen Volunteer Fire Department

February 15, 2008

Washington, D.C. -

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Homeland Security will release $143,450 to the Glenn Allen Volunteer Fire Department in Marion County.  The funding is provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program.

“This funding is critical to ensuring that Alabama’s first responders have the resources necessary to keep our communities safe,” said Shelby.  “These funds will help the Glenn Allen Volunteer Fire Department purchase a new vehicle.”

The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded these funds as a part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This program will distribute $490 million in direct federal assistance to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations nationwide this year.
