Shelby Announces $71,928 for Madison Fire and Rescue

April 4, 2008

Washington, D.C. -

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Homeland Security will release $71,928 to Madison Fire and Rescue.  The funding is provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program.

“Firefighters are in the field every day protecting our citizens,” said Shelby. “For this reason, we must ensure that our first responders have the most up-to-date equipment available. These funds will help Madison Fire and Rescue fund its operations and safety programs.”

The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded these funds as a part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This program will distribute $490 million in direct federal assistance to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations nationwide this year.
