Dear students:
While I may be much older than you, I’m still very young at heart! And as a young person I always had a thirst for knowledge as I’m sure you do as well.
On this page, you’ll find lots of interesting links to Websites that can answer many of your questions about how the government works, how you can make a difference and even how you can come to our nation’s capital to begin a lifetime devoted to public service.
I hope you’ll find this section of my Website – specifically designed for you – helpful as you write a paper for school or to simply answer any of your questions about what happens here in Washington.
Sincerely,
George V. Voinovich
United States Senator
Have you ever thought about interning on Capitol Hill? It is a great way to learn the inner workings of Congress and may just spark a lifetime of public service. If you’re interesting in learning more about the internship program in my office, click here.
The Senate also hosts the United States Senate Youth Program each year. USSYP, a weeklong program open to high school juniors and seniors, gives students the opportunity to learn about the Senate, meet elected officials and consider a career in public service. Two delegates from each state receive a $5,000 undergraduate scholarship to the college or university of their choice. If you are interested in learning more about USSYP, please see the program’s website at www.ussenateyouth.org.
While some high school students go straight into the workforce or attend a traditional college or university, a few select students strive to gain entrance into one of the Service Academies. These prestigious institutions include the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. If you have a love of education and a call to serve our nation, click here to learn more about the process.
