Today, November 10, marks the two hundred and thirty-third birthday of the Marine Corps. Senator Inhofe wrote to General James T. Conway, Commandant of the Marine Corps, to wish him and the Marines a happy 233rd birthday.
General Conway,
Today I write to wish you and your Marines a very happy 233rd Birthday. The United States Marine Corps from its humble beginnings as an Act of the Continental Congress, raising "...two battalions of Marines...," and a recruiting station in a Philadelphia tavern has become legendary among the greatest fighting forces of the world. Through the efforts of the United States Marine Corps, the world has been made a more secure, prosperous, and better place for all of mankind. This was achieved through the commitment and sacrifices of tens of thousands of Marines who risked and continue to risk their lives to preserve our freedom. It has also been achieved by the countless hours of support provided by civilian Marines and Marine families. I am eternally grateful for the freedoms the Marines and civilians of the Corps have provided for me, my family, and all the citizens of this great Nation. The selflessness and dedication of your Marines and their families are an inspiration to us all, and may the rest of us endeavor to live with Honor, Courage, and Commitment.
Thank you for all that your Marines do to protect our freedoms.
Sincerely,
James M. Inhofe
United States Senator
