CCFD receives $500K for new breathing units

November 20, 2008

Washington, D.C. – The Campbell County Fire Department is set to receive a grant for more than $500,000 to purchase critical new equipment, according to U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo.   The funds will be used to purchase new self-contained breathing apparatus or SCBAs, which provide firefighters with breathable air when fighting a fire.

"Local firefighters put their lives on the line to protect those they serve, and they should have access to the best resources possible,” said Enzi.  “I am pleased that Campbell County Fire Department will be receiving this money to purchase the equipment they need to keep themselves and our communities safe.”

With the money, the Fire Department will be replacing 100 of their 120 SCBAs, which are more than 12 years old, according to Senior Administrative Assistant Brian Murphy.

Early in 2008, Enzi encouraged Wyoming fire departments to attend informational programs around the state to learn how to apply for possible federal grants provided through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants program.

In addition to the $514,044 grant that these Northeastern fire departments will receive, the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program has awarded nearly $1.9 million throughout Wyoming to EMS and fire organizations over the past year. Grant money can be used by recipients for firefighter health and safety programs, training, the purchase of additional personal protection equipment, vehicle acquisition or modifications to fire stations and facilities.
