Why should you be an intern?

Each year Senator Jim Bunning offers an opportunity for college students to participate in their government through an internship program. The Internship Program gives students first-hand experience in the system they study. This unique and prestigious opportunity is offered to college students who display academic strength and community involvement.

What do interns do?

While in Washington, interns will have the opportunity to participate in one or more of the following areas: Legislative Division, Administrative Office, Press Office and the Correspondence Unit. Past interns have conducted legislative research, assisted in administrative functions, and performed data entry. As an intern, you may also assist the Press Secretary with draft releases and help organize the Senator's weekly telephone conferences with Kentucky media outlets. Furthermore, interns have the opportunity to attend committee hearings, help conduct Capitol tours and may participate in lecture series designed specifically for interns. During the 2001 Summer Lecture Series, interns were treated to the special opportunity of sitting in the House chamber to hear Secretary Colin Powell speak and answer questions.
