Senator Stevens Honors America’s Veterans

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) today issued the following statement in honor of Veterans Day:

“I would like to remind all Alaskans to take this day to honor the men and women who have defended our nation.

“Throughout our history, Americans have continued the tradition of service that began with the first shots in our War for Independence at Lexington and Concord.

“Millions of men and women have courageously and selflessly sacrificed so much to secure the blessings of liberty for us.

“I am proud to have served alongside such men in WWII. Sixteen million of my generation dedicated themselves to eliminating the tyrants who threatened freedom in this world.

“Today, our thoughts are with our troops who continue that cause, fighting for freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan and serving in more than 140 additional places around the world in the War Against Terror.

“We also remember the difficult sacrifices of their loved ones here at home.

“Our men and women serve our nation with honor and valor. These Americans, all volunteers, are America’s next greatest generation.  As they complete their mission and return home to Alaska, we should express our gratitude to them and help them in every way possible.

“I would like to send my thanks to each of you for honoring our fallen heroes and saluting all those who serve us in uniform today.”
