FY2009 Earmark Requests

Each year, a number of local governments, tribal organizations, the State of Alaska, service organizations, and other Alaska entities submit funding requests to Senator Stevens' office. This year, in an effort to shed light on the appropriations process, Senator Stevens' office will post all of these requests on his website for the public to view. The requests for FY09 were due to the Senator’s office by February 15, 2008.

Note, a request form is not required for a constituent to make a request for funding. Some requests come to the Senator via letters or phone conversations with the Senator’s offices. In addition, the Senator makes requests to the appropriations committee based upon his observations when traveling around the state and talking to constituents.

The requests posted on Senator Stevens' website are unsolicited. Their publication to the Senator's website is not an endorsement of the project nor an indication of the Senator's intention to submit the request to the appropriate subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

The Senator and his staff, working with the Appropriations Committee staff, will review these requests before making decisions on whether to submit each individual request. Each review takes into account the 302(b) budget allocation of the relevant appropriations subcommittee, the President’s budget request, merits of the requested project, existing federal programs to fund such projects, the amounts of State matching funds or local matching funds, local support, and a variety of other factors.

All content in these requests are provided by the requesting entity. On individual forms, personal information has been redacted. This is to ensure the privacy of individuals who work on the behalf of a larger entity.

Requests are organized by requesting entity. The process of organizing, reviewing, and digitizing the numerous requests sent to Senator Stevens takes time. As such, additions to this listing may occur for the next several weeks. Senator Stevens will, at various stages throughout the appropriations process, publish information regarding the status of these projects.
