On January 20, 2009, Senator Barack Obama will be sworn in as the 44th president of the United States. In a break with past presidential inaugurations, the entire National Mall will be open to the public that day. Spectators unable to get tickets inside the security area will be able to watch the swearing-in ceremony on large screens set up on the Mall.
