Statement of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton on Hispanic Heritage Month

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton today made the following statement in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month.

“Today I join you in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to salute the proud history and tremendous contributions of Hispanic Americans. In New York and every corner of our country, Hispanics are pursuing the American Dream each day, making our nation stronger, richer, and more dynamic. I have met so many Hispanic families passionate about working together to improve their communities and reclaim the future of our children – taking on the great challenges we face, from education, health care and immigration to fixing the housing crisis and making the economy work for our families again. I pledge to remain a partner, advocate and friend as we continue working together to make America what we know it must be.

“Hispanic Heritage Month commemorates the independence of many of our Latin American neighbors. Unfortunately, we have paid far too little attention to the region in recent years. It is time to get back to building bridges and pursuing partnerships with our neighbors. Latin America is too important to our national interest and too close to our hearts to continue to neglect as this administration has done for too long.”
