WU SUPPORTS LNG REHEARING REQUEST,
BACKS CONSTITUENTS BY OPPOSING LNG

PORTLAND, OR Today Congressman David Wu expressed support for a rehearing on the Bradwood Landing liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility, as requested by Governor Ted Kulongoski, and reiterated his decision to reflect voters' rejection of LNG in Oregon.

"When the citizens of Clatsop County voted two to one against natural gas pipelines through local parklands, I took that as a proxy for the merits of LNG in my district," said Wu.  "As a result of my commitment to listen to local citizens and support their decision on LNG, I oppose the LNG facilities and pipelines proposed for Oregon.  I don't believe that most of the LNG was ever intended to be used locally, and Oregon should not be serving as an energy farm for California."

In addition, Wu committed to fully supporting the rehearing request and intends to back the state in other potential actions to oppose the Bradwood Landing facility.  The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has 30 days to review Kulongoski's request.

"I have already pledged to serve as a federal watchdog to make sure that the Bradwood Landing facility doesn't move forward until all of FERC's required conditions are met in full," Wu said.  "I don't support LNG even if the conditions are met, but I certainly don't want to see it go forward without full environmental and safety protections.  In the meantime, I will also be sending a letter to FERC to encourage it to grant the state's rehearing request."
