Register to Vote

Your active involvement as a registered voter can have a profound impact in our community. Below, you will find information on how to register to vote, registration deadlines, and how to determine if you are already registered. You will also find information on how to vote by absentee ballot.

If you have moved since the last registration period, the Pennsylvania Board of Elections requires each person to re-register to vote.

Qualifications to Apply to Register to Vote

Individuals applying to register to vote must be: 

  • A citizen of the United States for at least one month before the next primary, special, municipal, or general election.
  • A resident of Pennsylvania and the election district in which the individual desires to register and vote for at least 30 days before the next primary, special, municipal, or general election.
  • At least 18 years of age on or before the day of the next primary, special, municipal, or general election.

Where to Apply to Register to Vote

Apply to Register to Vote in Person

Individuals may apply to register to vote at a County Voter Registration Office or other designated sites. A list of county contact information is located here.

Apply to Register to Vote by Mail

An individual may apply to register to vote by mail in one of three ways:

  • The first option is to obtain a voter registration mail application form prescribed by the State or Federal government. The Secretary of the Commonwealth and all county registration commissions supply voter registration mail applications to all persons and organizations who request them, including candidates, political parties and political bodies and other Federal, State, and municipal offices.
  • The second option is to download the voter registration application available on the Pennsylvania Department of State's website.
  • The third option is to complete the Online Pennsylvania Voter Registration Application Form. This form is also located on the Pennsylvania Department of State's website.

Apply to Register to Vote at PennDOT

Individuals may apply to register to vote at a Department of Transportation photo license center when they obtain or update their driver's license.

Apply to Register to Vote at Government Agencies

Individuals may apply to register to vote at many other State government offices, including:

  • State offices that provide public assistance and services to persons with disabilities.
  • Department of Transportation photo license centers.
  • Armed Forces Recruitment Centers
  • County Clerk of Orphans' Court offices, including each Marriage License Bureau.
  • Area Agencies on Aging.
  • Centers for Independent Living.
  • County Mental Health and Mental Retardation Offices.
     
  • Student disability services offices of the State System of Higher Education.
  • Offices of Special Education.
  • ADA Complementary Paratransit offices.

Voter Application Deadlines

Pennsylvania law provides that the deadline to apply to register to vote is 30 days prior to each election. Applications received after that date will be processed for the next primary, special, municipal or general election.
