Internships

My office is pleased to offer internships to eligible graduate and college-level students in order to further a student's educational and professional goals. An internship in a Congressional office affords students with a unique prospective into how the federal government functions. The internships are unpaid, but I will be glad to help you if you are requesting credit for your internship through your school or university.

Both part-time and full-time internships are available in our Washington, D.C. and Clarks Summit offices. There is no application deadline. Interns are accepted throughout the year. Please keep in mind, however, that the summer is a popular time for internships, and there is a limit to the number of interns who may work in the office due to space constraints. Intern Testimonials

Cora Walker

Being an intern in Congressman Carney's has been a great experience.  Not only have I learned a lot about the political process and the work of Congress, I have also learned what it is like to work in a professional environment.  The staff and other interns were so helpful and answered any questions I had, not only about the office, but issues that were of importance in Congress at that time.  As a student at The George Washington University, they were very understanding about my schedule, and together we worked out times that I could be in the office that wouldn't interfere with my classes and homework.  Interning in Congressman Carney's office was definitely an amazing experience.  I had chances to sit in on debate, and to watch floor proceedings first hand.  I learned so much about the political process, and the work that goes on behind the scenes of Congress.  It was a great opportunity that I would encourage anyone who is interested in political science to take.

Interning in Congressman Carney’s office was an incredibly rewarding and educational experience.  Working in the office has allowed me to learn about many things that will help me with my professional ambitions and has taught me more about the legislative process.  As a politics major at The Catholic University of America, I was eager to gain political experience, which interning in Congressman Carney’s office has certainly helped me to accomplish.  The staff members were especially helpful and served as great mentors.   During my internship, I was able to sit in on several very interesting hearings.  I was also able to work with constituents in many ways, like giving tours, which was a very rewarding experience.  I strongly recommend that anyone interested in interning for Congressman Carney do so—it was an amazing experience!

My internship in Congressman Carney’s office has been an exciting opportunity. Working with the Congressman and his staff has taught me more about how the legislative process actually works than any book ever could. As a native of Selinsgrove, the most rewarding part of the experience for me has been helping constituents and trying to do whatever I can for the folks at home. As a government major at Cornell University, I gained a wider perspective from my internship, as well as deeper knowledge of northeast Pennsylvania. To anyone who is interested in getting an insider’s perspective on the legislative process on Capitol Hill, I would strongly recommend taking advantage of the opportunities available in Congressman Carney’s office.
