Congressman Saxton announces Congress has allocated the most federal funds ever to continue the beach erosion repair project on Long Beach Island, Ocean County, N.J. Saxton said the 2009 budget has $11.7 million in new funding for beach replenishment, more than twice as much as ever obtained in a single year for beach replenishment. The funds is in the “Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance and Continuing Appropriations Act of 2009,” a continuing resolution appropriations bill that funds the government through March 2009. It passed the House Sept. 26, and the President signed it Oct. 1.

In the morning, today's prayer was offered by the House Chaplain, Rev. Daniel Coughlin. Recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance followed.
A number of bills are considered and voted upon, including the passage of:
>H.R. 5714, "to require the Secretary of the Treasury to mint coins in recognition and celebration of the establishment of the United States Army in 1775, to honor the American soldier of both today and yesterday, in wartime and in peace, and to commemorate the traditions, history, and heritage of the United States Army and its role in American society, from the Colonial period to today;" >H. Res. 1527, "congratulating the members of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Teams on their success in the 2008 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games;"
>H.R. 6867, "to provide for additional emergency unemployment compensation," passes 368-28.
>H.R. 6469, ""to amend the Public Health Service Act to authorize increased Federal funding for the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network."
At 3:29 p.m., the House recesses for the year, barring an emergency or a lameduck sesson of Congress.

Sept. 26, 2008
In the morning, the House convenes at 9 a.m. with opening prayer and Pledge of Allegiance.
Members passed some bills on voice votes, including:
>S. 2982, "to amend the Runaway and Homeless Youth Act to authorize appropriations;" >H.R. 7112, "to impose sanctions with respect to Iran, to provide for the divestment of assets in Iran by State and local governments and other entities, and to identify locations of concern with respect to transshipment, reexportation, or diversion of certain sensitive items to Iran;" >H.R. 7110, "making supplemental appropriations for job creation and preservation, infrastructure investment, and economic and energy assistance for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2009;"
>H. Con. Res. 214, "expressing the sense of Congress that the President should grant a posthumous pardon to John Arthur "Jack" Johnson for the 1913 racially motivated conviction of Johnson, which diminished his athletic, cultural, and historic significance, and tarnished his reputation;"
Members also pass H.R. 4120, to provide for more effective prosecution of cases involving child pornography," 418-0. The House recesses at 9:23 p.m.

Sept. 25, 2008
In the morning, The House floor opens with a prayer offered by the House Chaplain, Rev. Daniel Coughlin, and the Pledge of Allegiance. By voice votes, Members pass:
>H. Res. 1461, "recognizing the 10th anniversary of the terrorist bombings of the United States embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and the memorializing of the citizens and families of the United States, the Republic of Kenya, and the United Republic of Tanzania whose lives were lost and injured as a result of these attacks;"
>H.R. 3402, "to require accurate and reasonable disclosure of the terms and conditions of prepaid telephone calling cards and services;"
>H.R. 3232, "to establish a non-profit corporation to communicate United States entry policies and otherwise promote tourist, business, and scholarly travel to the United States."
Members also voted on two other bills:
>H. Res. 1421, "solemnly commemorating the 25th anniversary of the tragic October 1983 terrorist bombing of the United States Marine Corps Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon and remembering those who lost their lives and those who were injured," via a the Yeas and Nays, 414-0, and;
>H.R. 758, "to require that health plans provide coverage for a minimum hospital stay for mastectomies, lumpectomies, and lymph node dissection for the treatment of breast cancer and coverage for secondary consultations," by a vote of 421-2.
The House adjourns at 10:22 P.M.
