WASHINGTON – Rep. Adam Putnam (R-FL), Chairman of the House Republican Conference, has issued the following statement on the economy:

“Our economy is facing historic challenges. If left unaddressed, the confidence crisis in our markets will threaten the underpinnings of our economy and reach down into every community in America. Our goal must be to stop the erosion of confidence in the markets and make sure that Wall Street’s irresponsibility does not turn into a panic that reaches Main Street, threatening Americans’ jobs and eroding their pensions, their savings, their retirements and their home values.
 
“More confusing, ad hoc approaches will not work. Now is the time for a systemic, comprehensive solution to restore confidence in our markets and protect taxpayers, workers and families across America.
 
“This is no time for petty politics. At this critical moment, the American people expect and deserve to see their elected leaders working together for the good of our country. Republicans are committed to working with the Administration and our Democratic colleagues in a bipartisan way to craft a solution that gets our markets functioning again and help set our economy back on the right track.”
