13% - Do Nothing-Democrat Majority Garners Worst Approval Rating in History of NBC/WSJ Poll
Public Sees Democrat-Led Congress as “Bystander” on Record Gas Prices

REPUBLICANS FIGHT FOR REAL SOLUTIONS TO LOWER GAS PRICES, PROMOTE ENERGY INDEPENDENCE

From today’s Wall Street Journal report on the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll:

Congress's 79% to 13% disapproval rating is the worst in the Journal/NBC poll's 18-year history. Yet voters prefer that Congress, not Mr. Bush, take the lead on the issue of energy and gasoline prices. Their sense that Congress has not done so -- that it is ‘a bystander,’ in [pollster Neil] Newhouse's words -- may explain its low score, he says.”

House Republicans are answering the challenge of $4 gas, taking our meaningful solutions to produce American-made energy, lower gas prices and promote energy independence directly to the American people. Fred Barnes, executive editor of The Weekly Standard, writes in the magazine’s June 16, 2008 issue:

“Where Republicans have succeeded is in selling their solution to soaring gas prices: drilling for oil offshore and on federal lands, areas now off limits. In the Gallup survey, support for drilling in precisely these areas jumped from 41 percent in 2007 to 57 percent in May. … This is indeed a do-nothing Congress. The stance by Republicans on gas prices gives them the credibility to make that point.”
