Boehner Statement on President-Elect Obama’s Economic Team

Washington, Nov 24 - House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement after President-elect Barack Obama introduced his Administration’s economic team:

“This is a time to work together to address the most critical issue facing American families, and I look forward to working with President-elect Obama and his new economic team on solutions to get our economy moving again.  As we proceed, we should start by listening to the American people, who do not believe increasing government spending is the best way to put our economy back on track.  Families and small businesses are hurting, and they’re asking for solutions that let them keep more of what they earn rather than spending more of it.  Rebuilding 401(k)s by going to a zero capital gains tax; creating a million new jobs by enacting comprehensive energy reform; stopping unnecessary lawsuits that destroy jobs; and reducing taxes on middle-class families and small businesses are all solutions that would make a dramatic difference for our economy without expanding government and spending more of Americans’ hard-earned money.  I hope the President-elect’s economic team will give such ideas serious consideration, and I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress and the Obama Administration to craft legislation that gets our economy on track as soon as possible.”

NOTE: In October, Leader Boehner put forth a Rapid Recovery Plan for economic growth that emphasizes pro-growth policies such as energy reform, stronger 401(k)s, and tax relief rather than new government spending.
