WASHINGTON, DC—House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn released the following statement today in response to the President signing into law legislation that extends unemployment insurance benefits for over 2 million American’s who are looking for work. This is critical as new weekly unemployment claims reached a 16 year high this week.
“I’m pleased the President finally recognized the jobs crisis in America. It is critical that we support those who are looking for work during these tough economic times. This is an important step towards stabilizing our economy, but it’s not the last. Congress must act in the upcoming months to provide an economic stimulus package that will create jobs, provide real tax relief to middle-income Americans, and invest in our nation’s aging transportation infrastructure.”
