Immigration

In December 2005, the U.S. House approved a strong border security bill that puts a premium on strict enforcement of our immigration laws.  Committee Republicans played a key roll in strengthening border security that year and throughout the 109th Congress.  In November 2005, a month prior to the House vote on the border security bill, the Committee held a full Committee hearing on the impact of immigration policy on U.S. workers and the economy.  

And throughout 2006, the Committee held a series of hearings to examine issues such as: English as an official language; guest worker programs’ impact on the American Workforce and U.S. immigration policy; and U.S. immigration policy and its impact on the American economy.  Republican Committee members will continue working to reform our nation’s immigration laws while protecting the interests of American students and workers throughout the 110th Congress.
