Subcommittee on Border, Maritime, and Global Counterterrorism

Mark Souder (IN), Ranking Member

McCaulRanking Member Mark Souder was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1994, and he represents Indiana's Third Congressional District. As the Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Border, Maritime, and Global Counterterrorism, Souder has jurisdiction over border security, port security, Coast Guard and maritime security, global counterterrorism efforts, international aspects of homeland security, counter-narcotics, trafficking and smuggling, terrorist travel and financing, and homeland defense. Prior to the 110th Congress, Souder served as Chairman of the House Government Reform Subcommittee on Criminal Justice, Drug Policy and Human Resources, which had jurisdiction over the domestic and international anti-drug efforts throughout the federal government. In addition, the subcommittee had oversight of several other agencies, including the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and the National Park Service, as well as the Departments of Justice, Education, Health and Human Services, Commerce, and Housing and Urban Development. Before his election to Congress, Souder worked for U.S. Senator Dan Coats for 10 years during his tenure in the U.S. House and Senate. In addition to his duties relating to the Committee on Homeland Security, Souder also serves as a senior member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the House Committee on Education and Labor.
