About the Committee

Welcome from Ranking Member Davis

Welcome, and thank you for visiting the Web site of the Republican Members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. We hope you will find the information here useful, interesting and easily accessible.

The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has legislative jurisdiction over the District of Columbia, the government procurement process, federal personnel systems, the Postal Service and other matters. But our primary duty is oversight of virtually everything government does – from national security to homeland security grants, from federal workforce policies to regulatory reform and reorganization authority, from information technology procurements at individual agencies to government-wide data security standards.

Over the past four years, when I served as chairman of the committee, we held dozens more hearings than any other congressional committee. We looked into a wide range of important issues including improperly negotiated leases for offshore oil exploration, steroid use among athletes and why some National Guard soldiers were being dunned by collection agencies after they were accidentally overpaid while others continued to receive pay they hadn’t earned. Outright savings, avoided costs and enhanced revenue attributable to our work totaled more than $6 billion.

In the 110th Congress, our legislative and oversight agendas will continue to be pro-active and constructive. As the minority on the Committee on Government Oversight, we will continue to focus our efforts on exposing and preventing waste, fraud, and mismanagement in the federal government. In particular, we will look at the agencies and programs determined to be at high risk by the Government Accountability Office. We will continue to be reformers. We will work to streamline the federal government; to demand efficiency and accountability; and to protect the rights and interests of the American taxpayer.

Sincerely,

Tom Davis
