VENTURA, CA. – In anticipation of today’s Coast Guard hearing in Oxnard on the proposed BHP Cabrillo Port LNG facility, Congresswoman Lois Capps released the following statement. Congresswoman Capps will also be testifying before the State Lands Commission on the project on April 9th, in Oxnard.
“I remain strongly opposed to the Cabrillo Port LNG project. I am very concerned that this project poses serious threats to public safety, air and water quality, and the precious coastline of our community. Furthermore, I am troubled by the regulatory process that appears skewed in favor of building this project despite vigorous local opposition and a lack of conclusive evidence proving that the project is safe and necessary. Before we embark on this potentially harmful and irreversible project of a dubious nature I think we should first concentrate on reducing our energy needs and increasing our use of safer alternative energy sources.”
