WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today Congresswoman Lois Capps applauded President Bush’s decision to issue a Major Disaster Declaration for the state of California due to the recent devastating wildfires. The declaration came after all 55 Members of the Bipartisan California Congressional Delegation, including Senators Feinstein and Boxer, sent a letter to the President calling for the expedited approval of Governor Schwarzenegger’s request for the declaration. The President’s declaration will provide additional federal resources to help the affected families and communities recover from devastation caused by this disaster.
“I am pleased that this much needed federal relief is coming quickly to the aid of the families and communities that have lost so much in these devastating fires,” said Capps. “We continue to pray for the safety of our brave firefighters in harms way and hope that these fires will soon be contained without further loss of life or property.”
