WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today Congresswoman Lois Capps applauded the state of California for its support for Advanced Measures funding to stabilize the Santa Maria Levees.
“I am pleased we are making progress on Santa Barbara County’s request for emergency funding to stabilize the Santa Maria levees. I have already asked the Army Corps of Engineers to approve this request as soon as possible. Next week I will call the Army Corps’ Director of Civil Works to reiterate the urgency of this situation and the need for this critical funding. Protecting our community is of the utmost importance. I will continue to aggressively pursue this and other options to secure federal funding to prevent a levee failure on the Central Coast.”
Yesterday Congresswoman Capps met with Santa Maria Mayor Larry Lavagnino and Guadalupe Mayor Lupe Alvarez in her Washington, D.C. office to discuss this issue.
