WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Lois Capps applauded the passage of a key measure today that would protect Medicare patients and providers from devastating cuts to Medicare physician reimbursements while additionally enhancing Medicare services. Despite protests from Republican Congressional leaders, the House passed the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (H.R. 6331) by a large bipartisan margin with a vote of 355 to 59.
“I’m so pleased that the House has approved this essential measure with strong bipartisan support to protect Medicare patients and providers,” said Capps, Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on Health. “This legislation holds off the 10.6 percent payment cut that would harm thousands of Medicare physicians and they’re vulnerable patients. Our legislation also enhances important Medicare programs for preventive care and mental health benefits and it improves programs available to our low-income beneficiaries. I hope that the Senate will move quickly to pass this critical bill so we can send this legislation to the President for his approval.”
