WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Lois Capps released the following statement regarding the economic stimulus package announced today by House leaders and President Bush:
“I am pleased that House leaders and President Bush have been able to come to an agreement on an economic stimulus package to provide much needed relief to the American people. While it doesn’t have all the components that I would like to see – like increases in food stamps, unemployment and aid to states – this bipartisan economic stimulus package is a very good step in addressing our fragile economy. It is timely, targeted and temporary, and it will quickly put money in the hands of low and middle-income Americans and encourage businesses to invest. I hope we can pass it quickly and get it on the President’s desk for his signature.”
