Moore Secures Over $700,000 for Urban Entrepreneurship and Milwaukee’s Bus System

Funding to Improve Economic Opportunities Included in Bill

(Washington, DC) — Congresswoman Gwen Moore announced today that Wisconsin’s 4th Congressional District would receive $700,000 from the Transportation-Housing & Urban Development portion of the federal budget that was approved by Congress yesterday.  The funds would help to establish an Urban Entrepreneurship Center to promote job growth and creation, and improve accessibility and compliance with environmental standards on Milwaukee County buses.

“This funding is about improving the economic vitality of our community,” Congresswoman Moore said.  “This federal investment will create economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs and will help upgrade the transit system that is so critical for workers’ access to job sites.”

Specifically, the Transportation-Housing & Urban Development section of the federal budget included the following projects requested by Rep. Moore:

$200,000 for the Metropolitan Business Collaborative to establish Milwaukee’s Urban Entrepreneurship Center.

$500,000 for Milwaukee County’s Bus Capital Program.

The Milwaukee Urban Entrepreneur Partnership (UEP) – a program designed to promote inner city entrepreneurship and job growth – will use the $200,000 to develop the Milwaukee Urban Entrepreneurship Center that will encourage joint partnerships between Wisconsin corporations and inner-city entrepreneurs.  The Milwaukee UEP would also use the funds to improve existing financial and technical training programs, which would promote small business growth and development in the Milwaukee community area.

The appropriations bill also included $500,000 for Milwaukee County’s bus and bus facilities. The money would be used to fund bus capital upgrades and other capital equipment needs, including wheelchair lifts and cleaner diesel engines for the buses, improved rider accessibility and great benefits for the environment.
