REP. SCOTT APPLAUDS PRESIDENTIAL SIGNING
OF LANDMARK FINANCIAL AID BILL

(Washington D.C.) - Congressman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA-03) issued the following statement today following President Bush’s signing of the College Cost Reduction and Access Act:

“Today the President signed historic legislation that provides relief to millions of students and families paying for college. By cutting student loan interest rates in half and increasing funding for the PELL grant award and the Upward Bound program, the bill will help improve college access for millions of low-income and first generation college-going students. In addition, the bill includes critical funding for the needs of Historically Black Colleges and Universities and other minority serving institutions. I am proud of the efforts made by Members of the House Education and Labor Committee, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, and the full Congress in getting this bill before the President for signature. This is the single largest investment in college financial aid since the 1944 GI Bill.”
