Rep. Scott Views Storm and Sewage Damage
in Battery Park Tour with City Officials

(Richmond, VA)- Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott, (D-VA-3), will visit the Battery Park area of Richmond this afternoon to get a first hand look at the storm and sewage damage that has occurred as a result of the sewage line collapse and the heavy rains from tropical storm Ernesto last Friday. Rep. Scott will also meet with state and local officials to begin to assess how best to address this crisis in both the short and long term.

More than 100 residents have been displaced and 70 homes and apartments have been condemned as a result of the damage so far. Because of the damage, access to clean water has been poor. The City is attempting to pump sewage out of Battery Park but efforts to do so have been slowed by recent rains.

"We need to make sure that the residents of Battery Park have a safe place to stay and have access to food and clean water," said Rep. Scott. "The contaminated flood waters and raw sewage pose a serious threat to public health. I am committed to do all I can to get folks the assistance they need to make their homes and streets safe again."
