Scott Awarded the William H. Natcher Distinguished Service Award by the Committee for Education Funding

WASHINGTON, DC - Last night, the Committee for Education Funding awarded Congressman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA-3) with the William H. Natcher Distinguished Service Award.  According to CEF, the award was given to Rep. Scott “for distinguished service during this session of Congress in elevating the priority for education funding to ensure better opportunities for our nation’s citizens.”

The Committee for Education Funding (CEF) was founded in 1969 and is comprised of 100 member organizations who work together toward the common goal of achieving adequate federal support for our nation’s education system.  CEF, which is nonpartisan and nonprofit, is America’s largest education coalition and its members represent a broad spectrum of the education community.

“Congressman William H. Natcher, for whom this award is named, was a respected Member of the House of Representatives for over 40 years and I am honored to receive an award bearing his name,” commented Rep. Scott.  “The young people of today represent our country’s future.  We need to make sure that we provide them with the tools they will need to guide their own lives and the future of our nation.  A strong investment in education is the best way to ensure that we remain competitive in this global economy; at the same time, it is the most effective way to reduce incidents of crime and welfare costs.  I am committed to ensuring that access to both a quality education and an affordable education remains a top priority in Washington and around the country.  It is my pleasure to work CEF and its member organizations as we strive for excellence in the education system in this country.”

The award was presented to Rep. Scott at CEF’s annual Gala last night in Washington, DC.
