Rep. Scott Commemorates the 45th Anniversary of the Equal Pay Act

WASHINGTON, DC - Forty-five years ago today, the Equal Pay Act was signed into law, seeking to close the wage gap between men and women. Nearly a half of a century later, Representative Robert C. “Bobby” Scott, (D-VA-3) celebrates the country’s achievements in obtaining equal pay for women, but recognizes the need for further measures to ensure that women are receiving equal pay for equal work.

“There is no excuse for the systematic pay discrimination that still continues today,” said Rep. Scott.   “The Equal Pay Act provided a good starting point, but we need to continue to move forward.”

Rep. Scott is a strong advocate for a woman’s right to equal pay.  He was active in passing the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in the House of Representatives and has cosponsored the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would provide more effective remedies to women suffering from pay discrimination.
