Crime Subcommittee Chairman Scott Applauds U.S. Sentencing Commission Decision to Apply Crack Guideline Reductions Retroactively

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the U.S. Sentencing Commission unanimously approved retroactive application of the Crack Cocaine sentencing guideline reductions it had previously approved, originally scheduled to take effect November 1, 2007 for cases arising thereafter.  Congressman Scott issued the following quote upon release of the Commission’s decision:

“Having concluded that the guidelines for Crack sentencing are unjust, it would be unconscionable to not review the sentences of those already sentenced under those guidelines,” said Robert C. “Bobby” Scott, (D-VA-3), who is Chairman of the U.S. House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security.
