Rep. Scott is honored as peacemaker of the year

(Washington D.C.)- Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (D-VA), has been honored by the Richmond Peace Education Center with its Peacemaker of the Year award. He received the award for his support of human and civil rights and for his opposition to the War in Iraq.

"I am particularly pleased to be recognized by an organization which has as its principle educating the public on options for non-violent conflict resolution," Congressman Scott said. "There are many strategies to resolve conflict that if properly implemented can avoid unnecessary violence."

The Richmond Peace Education Center is an organization that works for a just and peaceful community by promoting non-violence locally and globally. It presented the award to Rep. Scott during its annual awards dinner at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Richmond, Virginia. Approximately 150 people were in attendance.

This is only the second time the Richmond Peace Education Center has bestowed this award. The first recipient of the award was Bishop Emeritus Walter F. Sullivan of the Richmond Catholic Diocese.

Congressman Scott received the award on November 11, 2005.
