Rep. Nadler Supports Troop Withdrawal Proposal

Legislation Fails, But Congressman Vows to Continue to Demand Accountability From the President

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-08), a member of the Out of Iraq House Caucus, today voted in favor of H.R. 2237, the "Iraq Redeployment Act." The legislation, which failed on a vote of 171 to 255, would have compelled the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq in 90 days and required the complete redeployment of U.S. troops from Iraq.

"Sadly, the House missed an opportunity to end the vast mistake that is this war," said Rep. Nadler. "I have opposed the Iraq war since before it started. I voted against the original authorization for the use of force in Iraq in October, 2002, and have been a vocal critic of the war ever since. The President’s war in Iraq has resulted in a tragic loss of life, a waste of resources, and remains a diversion from the real war against Islamic terrorists now being fought mostly in Afghanistan."

"The American people and even members of his own party openly doubt the reasons for our continued presence in Iraq," Rep. Nadler added. "We should withdraw our troops from Iraq as quickly as possible. While we may have failed to end the war, I will continue to fight for quick and safe return of all of our brave men and women that serve their country in Iraq."
