Rep. Nadler Announces New Pension Compensation Deal from the Ukrainian Government

Eligible Individuals Encouraged to Apply for Compensation

NEW YORK – Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-08) today informed his constituents of Ukrainian origin that, according to the Consulate General of Ukraine in New York, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine have announced a resolution to pay “citizens of Ukraine compensation for losses by devalued savings deposited before 2 January 1992 to the USSR Oshchadbank institutions and the USSR state insurance” within Ukraine.  

The limit on funds to be paid out is 1,000 hryvnia for each individual – about $200.

In order to apply for compensation, individuals must be Ukrainian citizens.  A Ukrainian citizen who is not able to make a claim in person may do so by delegating authority through the power of attorney, which must be issued through the Consulate General.

To make a claim, applicants should submit copies of the following documents to the Oshchadbank before December 25, 2008:

Bank deposit documents/proof of account
Oshchadbank Application Form
Identification Code
Ukrainian Passport
