Rep. Nadler Mourns the Loss of Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones

NEW YORK, NY – Rep. Jerrold Nadler (NY-08) today issued the following statement on the untimely death of Ohio Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones:

“I am deeply saddened by the sudden and surprising passing of Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones.  I have considered her both a friend and an ally in Washington these past 10 years and my spirits were so often lifted by her vibrant and warm presence.  She was not simply an historic figure – being the first African-American woman to represent the state of Ohio in Washington – but was of her own merit a first-rate legislator who fought vigorously for progressive American ideals.  Everyone who knew her will tell you that she was a joy to be around – enthusiastic, funny, loving and forthright – and she brought her wonderful personality to the sometimes bland atmosphere of Washington.  I can only imagine the loss to her family and close friends, not to mention her constituents and the entire state of Ohio.  She will certainly be missed in the halls of Congress.  My deepest condolences go out to her family.”
