House Overrides President’s Veto of Water Resources Development Act

Bill Contains Rep. Nadler’s Request for $10 Million Authorization for Hudson River Park Trust

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-08), who represents parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn, today joined with his colleagues in the House to override President Bush’s veto of the Water Resources Development Act.  The final vote of 361 to 54 was more than the two-thirds required.  The bill heads to the Senate, where it is also expected to pass.

Included in the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) Conference Report is language authored by Rep. Nadler that authorizes $10 million in funding for the Hudson River Park Trust.  The funds would be used for critical work on the park, including restoration of marine habitat, safety improvements, and rehabilitation of piers and core infrastructure.

“The overwhelming support for WRDA is reflective of the fact that the bill creates jobs and supports critical safety and security efforts,” said Rep. Nadler.  “The projects contained in this bill will help millions of Americans and their communities.   The Hudson River Park is crucial to the continuing growth of the West Side.  I am proud to support the ongoing civic improvement that continues to have a profound impact on the quality of life in New York City.”
