B Representative Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) released the following statement today lamenting the death of former Representative Shirley Chisholm, of Brooklyn, the first African American woman to serve in Congress. "Shirley Chisholm was a model of courage and conviction. As an educator, an activist, and an elected representative, she worked tirelessly on behalf of women and minorities at a critical juncture in our nation’s history.
