Rep. Nadler Lauds California’s Marriage Equality Decision

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-08), Chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties today issued the following statement regarding the California Supreme Court’s ruling that gay and lesbian couples have a right to marry:

"Today’s decision reaffirms that gay and lesbian Americans deserve equal treatment under the law.  As we have seen in Massachusetts, permitting gays and lesbians to marry only serves to strengthen our families and reaffirms our commitment to justice and freedom.  While many states, including my own state of New York, continue to grapple with the issue of marriage equality, I hope that this decision will serve as an inspiration and an affirmation."
