Nadler: Bush Budget is Bad for America

New York -- Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) today chided President Bush for submitting a budget for Fiscal Year 2005 to Congress that is heavy on deficits and tax cuts and low on benefits for middle and lower-class Americans.

The President's budget includes a $1.1 trillion tax cut for wealthy Americans, proposes a $9.4 billion cut in funding for No Child Left Behind, a $1 billion cut in law enforcement, and a $606 million cut for the Environmental Protection Agency.

"The President's budget is severely misguided," said Nadler. "What the President's budget is saying, in effect, is that education is not important, that law enforcement is not important, that the environment is not important, and that health care for seniors is not important. The only thing that is important to the President is another $1.1 trillion tax cut for the wealthiest Americans."

Nadler has served in Congress since 1992. He represents the 8th Congressional District of New York, which includes parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn.
