Payne Announces Grant for University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey | |||
Washington, D.C. – United States Congressman Donald M. Payne today announced that the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has awarded $15,000 to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a division of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, conducts and supports research on infectious, immunologic and allergic diseases. For over 50 years, NIAID research has led to new therapies, vaccines and other technologies that have advanced the field of medicine. The grant awarded to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey will be used for tuberculosis research. "Tuberculosis has recently been featured in the news," Payne stated. "With more virulent, resistant strains affecting all regions of the world, including the United States, I think it is important that money is put into researching this disease. I'm happy that UMDNJ will be able to continue their important research into this field." # # # |
