The New Jersey chapter of Public
Interest Research Group (PIRG), a non-partisan advocacy group that lobbies
in support of the public interest position, has given Congressman Donald
M. Payne (D-N.J.) of the 10th Congressional district a 100 percent rating
for his strong support of the public interest position on issues such as
the environment, health care, campaign finance, consumer protection, and
others. This score reflects the Congressman’s continued commitment
to issues that affect and are important to his constituents.
Each year, NJPIRG produces a scorecard that is used to keep track of
the votes of all New Jersey representatives in Congress. The scorecard
marks each Member’s votes as either for or against the public interest
vote. According to the scorecard, Congressman Payne voted in support
of the public interest position on every one of twenty votes. No
other New Jersey Member of Congress attained the Congressman’s perfect
score.
Moreover, the Congressman maintains a life score of 95 percent of votes
in support of the public interest positions throughout his seven-term career.
Again, this is the highest rating any New Jersey representative has received
from this group.
“I am very honored to have received this rating from NJPIRG and will
continue to serve as an advocate for policies that benefit my constituents,”
said Congressman Payne.
