TALLAHASSEE-Congressman Allen Boyd (D-North Florida) today hosted the inaugural District Healthcare Council meeting to discuss local healthcare issues and concerns amongst the 24 representatives from 16 counties across North Florida. Congressman Boyd formed the healthcare council so that the counties he represents can work together to solve healthcare problems on a local level.
"Access to quality, affordable healthcare is a critical part of American life," said Congressman Boyd. " Although much more needs to be done in Washington, there is more that we can do at home as well. With representatives from each county in Florida's 2 nd Congressional District, it is my hope that we can pool our resources and develop common healthcare initiatives to improve the overall quality of healthcare in North Florida."
Over the past year and a half, Congressman Boyd and his staff have held over 50 meetings to establish the district wide healthcare council. In addition, Congressman Boyd hosted 15 town hall meetings across North Florida in February to give his constituents the opportunity to voice their healthcare concerns and to start a dialogue within the communities on healthcare.
Each county was then given the task of choosing a representative to serve on the District Healthcare Council. The mission of the council will be to tackle healthcare issues locally and to prioritize appropriations requests for federal funding.
"The District Healthcare Council not only assembles representatives from the entire district, but it also brings together people from all different professions and points of view, so that the discussions and solutions will truly be comprehensive and representative of our unique district," Boyd stated. "By bringing the district together, we will be able to turn these conversations into workable plans to help our citizens receive the quality healthcare they need and deserve."
