(November 8, 2008) Downtown, Los Angeles – Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard attended the 50th Anniversary Gala of Bishop Mora Salesian High School and presented Principal Samuel Robles with a commemorative United States flag that was flown over the nation's U.S. Capitol Building in honor of the school’s anniversary.
During the congresswoman’s remarks, she said: “The Salesian education program gives our youth the critical academic foundation so badly needed for our youth to successfully assume their roles as future leaders of our country.”
Opened in 1958, the high school has educated more than 8,000 students who attend the school from throughout Los Angeles County. The school is operated by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Located in Boyle Heights, the school credits its exceptional college preparatory offerings, its 16:1 student/faculty ratio and its generous financial aid packages for the school’s success producing accomplished students and community leaders. Ninety percent of the students in each graduating class are accepted into colleges and universities such as the University of California at Berkeley, Yale, Georgetown, and USC. Seventy-five percent of the students who attend the school benefit from financial assistance made possible through fundraisers such as this gala dinner held at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Downtown.
