(May 26, 2008) Cinco Puntos, Boyle Heights – Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) joined members of the American Legion Post 804 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4696 at the 61st Annual Cinco Puntos Memorial Day observance. The ceremony followed a 24-hour vigil at the Mexican-American All Wars Memorial where members of the community and local veterans stood guard in honor of the fallen soldiers. Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard and her husband, Mr. Ed Allard, himself a 10-year Marine and Vietnam veteran, stood guard for the last 30 minutes of the vigil (see photo). The commemoration featured keynote speaker Ambassador Julian Nava and Master of Ceremonies and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist George Ramos. Pictured in the second photo, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard, her husband, State Senator Gloria Romero (holding flag) and the distinguished members of the Cinco Puntos Memorial Day planning committee.
