(February 22, 2008) Commerce – For the third year in a row, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard hosted representatives from nine area health care clinics – all members of the Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County – at a roundtable discussion she organized at the City of Commerce Emergency Operations Center. They gathered to discuss the health care issues of most concern to the clinics and their patients. A member of the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Subcommittee of Appropriations, the congresswoman listened to health clinic representatives discuss funding priorities for the Community Health Clinics and updated them on the President’s Proposed Healthcare Budget for Fiscal Year 2009. Community clinics and health centers are independent not-for-profit providers of comprehensive primary health care services. The clinics serve the working poor, the uninsured, medically high-risk and vulnerable populations, regardless of a person’s ability to pay. For her commitment to strengthening and preserving access to quality health care for America’s medically underserved, the congresswoman has been nationally honored three times by the National Association of Community Health Centers, Inc., which includes the Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County.

Pictured in the above photo: Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard, pictured center, is joined by roundtable participants from the following nine clinics and the Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County: AltaMed Health Services, which operates centers in Bell, Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles/Commerce and Huntington Park; Arroyo Vista Family Health Center, which operates a clinic in Pico-Union/Westlake; Central City Community Health Center, based in Florence; Chinatown Service Center, based in Chinatown; Eisner Pediatric Family & Medical Center, located in Downtown Los Angeles; Family Health Care Centers of Greater Los Angeles, which operates a clinic in Bell Gardens; JWCH Institute, which operates centers in Downtown Los Angeles, East Los Angeles and Bell Gardens; and Los Angeles Mission Community Clinic, located in Downtown Los Angeles; and Planned Parenthood Los Angeles (not pictured).
