Washington, DC - The House of Representatives passed the Water Resources Development Act of 2003, which authorized critical flood control projects across the country. Included in the bill was a section sponsored by Congressman Gene Green that would authorize Halls Bayou to be constructed by Harris County Flood Control District and reimbursed by the Army Corps of Engineers.
“This bill allows for a Halls Bayou project to be done more quickly and with more local input, which is what my constituents want,” said Green. “Harris County has already constructed a detention area in the Halls Bayou watershed at Keith Weiss Park, but more needs to be done because there are many families vulnerable to flooding from Halls Bayou. This will also help with flood relief on Green Bayou in the Sheldon area. ”
“In 2001, Tropical Storm Allison flooded almost 13,000 homes in the Halls Bayou watershed and this week’s floor action is progress for homes and business in the area that need greater protection from storms,” added Green.
