Washington, DC - Congressman Gene Green today received the “My Boss is a Patriot” award from the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). He was nominated by his
district staff assistant, Lance Corporal Marcos Jesús García-López, of the United States Marine Corps Reserves. Rep. Green was one of just over fifty Members of Congress recognized for employing a member or members of the reserve component.
“I am proud to receive this award just as I am proud to have the opportunity to employ such distinguished members of our nation’s armed services in my Congressional offices,” said Green. “Over the years I have had several employees with affiliations to the armed services and they have always done as wonderful a job for me as they have in serving our country.
“I would like to thank Rep. Green for allowing me the opportunity to serve my country while also maintaining my employment in his office,” said López-García. “More employers, especially in the private sector, need to have the flexibility so that reservists can keep their jobs while serving in the military.”
Lance Corporal Marcos Jesús García-López was born and raised in Houston, TX and has worked for Rep. Green for the past four years.
