Green Receives 2003 Independent Oil and Natural Gas Award

Houston, TX - Today, Rep. Gene Green (D-Houston) was honored with the 2003 Independent Oil and Natural Gas Award by the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) during a meeting of the North Shore Rotary Club.  This award recognizes elected representatives who work vigorously to maintain and enhance America’s domestic oil and natural gas resources.

“I’m honored to receive this award,” stated Rep. Green.  “During my tenure in Congress, I have been proud to work with the independent producers whose entrepreneurial spirit has provided us with the power to build our country and has protected us from total energy dependence.  I will continue to work so that our nation always has the energy resources it needs to keep our economy strong and secure.”

The IPAA is an association of independent producers.  Independent producers drill 85 percent of the nation’s wells and produce 75 percent of the country’s natural gas and more than 40 percent of the country’s crude oil supply.  While member companies supply an enormous amount of the nation’s energy needs, they are small businesses that general employ less than 15 people.

“I want to thank IPAA for giving me this award,” continued Rep. Green.  “I look forward to working with them and other groups as we seek to protect our nation’s oil and gas supplies and provide jobs and technology for our economy.”
